Research Intern
IHI is a non-profit dedicated to treating chronic disease and addressing women's health issues in developing countries. We are seeking to fill the position of Research Associate Internship, based at IHI’s Headquarters in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
IHI conducts research in the fields of public health and the social sciences for the purpose of designing effective programs. IHI also aims to document the social and epidemiological needs in Haiti for the purposes of health care and gender advocacy. Research associates are expected to operate with a high level of independence and assist the project leader with collecting, writing and disseminating research related to their field. It is common for interns to participate in the daily running of their director’s programme by assisting in any way required. In addition, research associates may conduct their own research projects outside of regular working hours if they choose. Interns will work under supervision and guidance of the programme director and may also conduct research from their home based once they are sufficiently familiar with the project.
Description:
Under the general supervision of the programme manager, the research associate intern will be responsible for the following duties:

Assist data collection needs for the programme;

Assist in database(s) design and implementation for the programme;

Assist in the design and writing of research proposals and abstracts;

Assist in collecting data for the programme;

Draft research papers, research documentation for the programme;

Perform other duties as required.
Essential Requirements:
-
Currently enrolled or attended courses at a University in the last 12 months including having completed 2 years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 12 months from a University degree in social sciences, public health or related field;

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);

Fluent in English;

Intermediated knowledge in a second language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish);

Excellent writing and communication skills.

Terms and Conditions:
Interns do not receive a salary from IHI, and are expected to cover their living expenses while in Haiti (US$25 dollars a day).
IHI is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from Haiti, or necessary visas and costs. IHI is happy to give advice and guidance to prospective Interns regarding travel arrangements and accommodation while in Haiti.
